Ah well. Congratulations to Roger Federer. He was too strong for Robin Soderling. And Soderling was not as aggressive as he was in earlier matches. But even at 5-3 in the third set I still had hope. Dwindling, but it was there. But Roger closed out the game, set and match with the help of an unforced error from Soderling. Ho hum.

So, with this win and the French Open title, Federer has completed his goal of the career grand slam by winning slam titles on all surfaces. It also means he has equaled Pete Sampras‘s record of 14 grand slams. With doubt over Rafa‘s particpation at Wimbledon (his dodgy knees are playing up again. I suppose the clay court season doesn’t help there), I wonder if there is anyone to step up to the mark and offer some competition for the Wimbledon title. Or will Roger win a 6th trophy there? All will be clear in the next month.

And the big question… Will Robin Soderling build on the momentum he has created at the French Open? I hope so, he has a great game when he’s on form.
