Who do I write like? July 15, 2010

This was an interesting experiment. There is a site, I write like, where you input text from whatever you are writing, it may be a novel, short story, blog, whatever, and it tells who you supposedly write like. I tried a few pieces and these were my results:

  1. David Foster Wallace (twice)
  2. Ian Fleming
  3. H. G. Wells
  4. Ursula K. Le Guin

Now, if I could only find confidence in my writing, I might be sorted!

No – drop everything and read the Earthsea quartet followed by the adult SF novels, The Dispossessed and The Left Hand of Darkness if you really haven’t read Le Guin. In fact, start with The Left Hand Of Darkness.

Well… Maybe not drop everything right away, but now I know what to suggest when I’m asked what I want for my birthday! And sadly, I really haven’t read any Le Guin.

I got DFW twice too! Haven’t had the nerve to put my current WIP through it yet though.

Hang on…

Whoa! NEIL GAIMAN!

Of course, another chapter would be totally different…

I felt a little dense with the DFW result, had to look him up. I’d never heard of him. And then I felt like a heathen because I’ve never read any of the others. It might be time I changed that, but they’ll have to wait until I’ve trudged through the already huge pile of books I need to read .
