Woohoo! Andy Murray beat James Blake in the final of the Aegon Championships at Queen’s Club. Fantastic! In a straight sets win as well – 7-5, 6-4. Chuffed, I am. Not much more I can say. I’m not going to go into how many years it’s been since a Brit won there (71. Doh!), but I’m hoping that this could mean good things for Murray at Wimbledon. I’m not going to start basket weaving or looking after chickens, it would do no good. There’s always the chance that some fluke might happen and his first round opponent knocks him out. I hope not, but it could happen. Maybe one of the four British wildcard entries might have a chance of making it into the second round. Fingers crossed.

On other things not sports related (didn’t watch MotoGP. Skidaddles said it was a cracking race, too), I have finished reading The Other Side of Truth. Huh. Sudden ending. No closure. Interesting descriptions of tertiary characters who had no real names. I’m not sure if I enjoyed it or not. A good book for raising debate about immigration and child smuggling. The fact that it’s written from a kid’s point of view definitely gives the story more oomph.

Attempting to read Swallows and Amazons next. I have to admit, I’m already struggling with it as I can’t associate with the characters. Not for the different era it is set in, but because I can’t find any sort of sympathy with them as yet. The first few chapters feel really inaccessible due to the overabundance of information regarding sailing (hopefully the link above might help with that). Never been sailing, never had the opportunity. For now, it’s all just a bunch of words on a bunch of pages about a bunch of stuck-up kids. And what is with calling the baby sister ‘Fat Vicky’ all the time? I really am not enjoying this one. I suppose the sooner I read it, the sooner I’m done with it. Obviously. Can’t wait to read somthing different now.

Well, Grandand and Princi will be getting back from the swingpark any time now, so it’s time I packed the computer away.

Hmph. After the other Brits went out yesterday I was looking forward to a really good grass court tennis match between Andy Murray and Sebastien Grosjean. What did I get? Two games. Grosjean retired with a leg injury. Ah well. Will have to wait until tomorrow now. Hopefully there’ll be some good tennis during the rest of the afternoon (C’mon Richard Bloomfield!).

On the essay front, I’m up to around 1120 words now. Still need to work a bit more on the socialism section, but I’ve done the conclusion. I’m feeling OK about this assignment, it’s the first time I haven’t had an imposing sense of doom about what I have written. I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I think I’ll try and get the essay finished tonight when (and if!) Principessa goes to sleep. I really want it finished, with a day or two to let it rest before I go through the draft again.
